About BillAverage
BillAverage answers a question most people ask when a bill arrives, or before they move: is this normal? What does electricity, gas or heating oil actually cost where I live?
The answer is already public. The U.S. Energy Information Administration collects what utilities sell and charge in every state, and surveys heating oil dealers every week in winter. But the figures sit in tables built for analysts. We turn them into one clear page per state and fuel: the typical monthly bill, the price behind it, how it compares with the rest of the country, and what to expect for an apartment or a house.
What we promise
- Every figure names its source and the months or week it covers. See our methodology.
- Anything we calculate, like bills by home size or delivery costs, is labeled as our estimate.
- If EIA hasn't published a number, we don't fill it in.
- We're independent. EIA doesn't endorse or work with us, and no utility or supplier pays for placement in our figures.
How we make money
We plan to show ads on the site. Ads never change the data we publish.
